I felt emotionally connected to the patient's suffering. I shared sadness, agony, and distress with the patient. The emotional connection demonstrates to us (patient, I) that we shared a joint effort to move forward and alleviate the suffering together. Therefore, I felt a sense of a partnership, a duty to uphold the patient's welfare, and the urgency to help the patient recuperate.
As we continued to work together, we shared joy, hope, and gratitude. These moments contributed to the patient's improvement. I felt honored to support this person when adversity emerged.
